Since my childhood I have experienced some sort of fabrication regarding the hobbies that I was interested in. Money was a little tight so I did everything myself. I received a lot of help from different people who understood what I wanted to accomplish. So you can say my training as a fabricator began at a very early age. I had the coolest bikes, go-carts and toys and kid would want.
I attended high school in the 60’s and involved myself with electives such as mechanical drafting, woodshop and metal shop. These classes would help pave the road towards where I am today. In these classes I was taught how to be creative in design and use a variety of woodworking hand tools and machinery. I aced these classes excelling with the more difficult projects and challenged my creativity beyond broom holders and shoeshine boxes.
The 70’s brought a new life. I got married and then came the children. With no college degree I found myself in the arena of general labor. This was a good time in my life and I was confronted with having to make a very important decision. After much thought I asked myself, “If I had to work, what occupation would I like to be in?” I chose the guitar industry due to my strong interest in music. The decision led me to a job with Fender Musical Instruments. Even though the job I landed with Fender was not guitar related I saw it as having my foot in the door. My Fender gig didn’t really pay off. I soon quit and found work with Charvel’s Guitar Custom Shop in Covina, California. Wayne Charvel was the Luthier who taught me the early stages of guitar repair and guitar fabrication. Having gained experience I moved on and in 1979 I preceded to start my own career. This was the beginning and my new experience as a self employed Luthier. I had a good start with my repair jobs and also began fabricating Sandoval Custom Guitars. I worked with many local guitarist whom eventually made it very big such as Eddie Van Halen, Michael Anthony, George Lynch, Randy Rhoads, just to name a few.
Sandoval engineering is stronger than ever emphasizing quality craftsmanship, new concepts and new fabricating techniques. I am doing everything possible to continue in creating custom instruments every customer can be proud of. Sandoval Custom Guitars are not only functional, but have remained desirable as a custom collectable instrument.
My tradition of customizing and fabricating will continue to set a level of excellence for years to come. To own a Sandoval Custom will always be as if you own a piece of guitar history.
In addition as my career is advancing I have managed to draw attention additional well-known musicians such as Daron Malakian, Rick Neilsen, and Little Willie G.
